While I was in New York, Cole Haan invited me down to check out their semi-newly renovated store on Prince Street in Soho and to introduce one of their special collections. The store is the perfect blend of tradition, classic, cool and contemporary. Fitted with tons of natural wood and trimmed with black metal along the fixtures, the interior made me feel like I just stepped into the coolest grandpa’s house, if this grandpa wore seriously cool desert boots and double denim (think Nick Wooster or basically anyone who goes to Men’s Fashion Week). They don’t carry a super wide selection of shoes, especially not for women but when you’re the makers of the perfect classic wingtip or oxford, why would you need such a wide selection anyway.

Cole Haan has taken classic shoe silhouettes and injected them with Nike air technology in their soles, making them seriously THE most comfortable shoes and added a twist to tradition with new materials and inventive colorways. Everything in the store felt timeless yet on trend which is exactly what everyone should be investing in.

I was introduced to the special SoHo-exclusive collection where the shoes are entirely made with the 3M reflective material from Nike shoes (you’ll see pics below). You know that little shiny thing that reflects light, normally found on the Nike tick or along the stripes of your airmax 95? Yep, these traditional classic Cole Haan silhouettes were completely made of that material. This collection is the perfect example of Cole Haan’s incredibly innovative twist on a classic shoe.

The special Soho-exclusive Reflective collection!

This picture shows the shoes with and without flash! Imagine wearing these and walking along the streets in the evening when a car suddenly drives by and the lights hit your shoes and BAMMMMM reflection city! These shoes are only available at the store Soho store.

“These reflective versions of our iconic wingtips and penny loafers were created to add a flash of visual impact to what’s traditionally a black and brown shoe world. It’s the idea of taking a classic shoe and adding a bold and unexpected twist”
— VP of Design, Phil Russo.

These were one of my favourite pairs! Before the final shoe was all sewn together, each shoe is hand dipped to create the little block of colour which makes every shoe that little bit different from the other. Too bad these didn’t run in women’s sizes ):

They had these cute bowls of colourful shoe laces. I think for every pair of shoes you buy, you get to pick an extra pair of laces!

They had a cute little vintage looking photobooth in the back of the store where you could take pics and it would feed to the digital frames hanging behind the counter. I wan’t to take a pic but I was too shy to take one alone :/

Now back at home!

The lovely people at Cole Haan let me pick out a pair from the reflective collection and I chose the Maliya Wingtips in black!

For my extra laces, I picked these thin hot pink ones which pops real nice against the dark grey. Oh and yes I’m going to change both of the laces to pink later.

Flash off!

Flash on!

These shoes are actually really slippery on the sole, so the trick is to just use a pair of scissors and scratch the shit out of the bottom! After more wear, these scruff up real nice.

Is everyone having an epileptic fit yet? hahahaha, well I love these shoes. Both my mom and nanz have a snake-skin version of the Maliya wingtips and they say they are the most comfortable shoes ever because of the Nike air technology. They’re my first pair of wingtips and I can picture them with rolled up black jeans and my bombass leather jacket. Outfit pics coming soon!

Anyway sorry for the extra long post and thanks sosoososososo much to Cole Haan for the amazing shoes! If you get the chance, you should all definitely make a trip down to the store to check out those hand-dipped shoes!

Bye!

(Above outfit pics by Carmen on my camera, thanks gurrrrrrl)

Welcome to my second NY post! Woke up extra bright and early on a super sunny but freezing day to trek my frozen ass down to the LES to meet Carmen for brunch at..dun dun dun Clinton Street Bakery! Oh man it is always a definite must-eat if anyone is ever in NY or even if you just live there. It helped that I used to live LITERALLY 2 blocks away from there..the food seriously never disappoints. The only insane thing is waiting for a table (along with the 100000 tourists), especially when it feels like -1000 degrees outside.

It’s almost a sin not to order the pancakes when you’re at CSB. Blueberries are mixed right into the batter and their syrup is like some heavenly next level type of syrup shit. SO GOOD. Along with our stack of pancakes, me and Carmen also shared a huevos rancheros (another one of my favourite dishes OF ALL TIME AT ANY RESTAURANT EVER) (can you tell I love Mexican food?) and a sideorder of sweet potaterrrr fries!

P.S. Also check out Sam’s post for more mouth-watering CSB pics here!

P.P.S. Oh yah so this was the only day that I did an outfit shot and only cos Carmen helped me take them! This was pretty much how I dressed the whole time in NY…thick scarf, black pants and substituting my leather jacket for my thick ass wooly duffle coat.

My bbgurl Carmen ready to pounce on those pancakes.

Later on in the afternoon, after some quick shopping in Soho and the West Village with Carmen, I headed up to midtown to meet with one of my first ever good friends in NY, RICKYYYYYY REYEZZZZZZ. Him and his best buddy Edwin recently started up this amazing art and design company called I Like New Things and also blog about cool stuff/people that they create, like, meet or whatever! They asked if they could interview me for their blog and of cooooourse I couldn’t say no! I met them up on 30 sth floor of a building in midtown and the view out on the freezing patio was amazing.

RICKY!!!!!!!

How awesome is this? When they interview someone, instead of just posting up the photos they took of the person, they illustrate the pictures instead! You guys must read the interview and check out more illustrations here!

And lastly, a pic of downtown NY. Miss you bb♥

Did everyone have a fantastic Christmas and New Years?

For me, it was very much not about glamour, champagne or sparkles but all about eating, relaxing and spending time with my family. I can’t believe 2011 is over already..that was definitely a whirlwind of a year. All I can remember about it was tons of stressful days at work (can’t believe this was the first thing that came to mind), meeting great new friends, making life-changing decisions, plenty of great days but a hefty share of ughhhh-kill-me-now days too.

Now that it’s finally 2012, all I can say is that this will be the year of change and hard work both career-wise and definitely life-wise. I hope this year will be full of fun projects and collaborations, using my time wisely, building and strengthening relationships and friendships, focusing on the important stuff and lastly to make sure to be smart and not over-think things. I can’t believe this year I’ll be closer to 30 than 20…oh man sounds insane and so fast and I definitely don’t feel like my age but it just means that real life starts now and I’m just that much closer to becoming a real grandma.

Anyway so I’ve finally gotten round to editing my New York pictures! Surprisingly, I didn’t really take that many pictures. I bought a new 16GB SD card thinking I’d be snapping away but actually, I rarely even whipped out my camera. Between too heavy bags and hands busy eating, I just couldn’t be bothered to take pics really. Out of all 13 days of being there, I only took ONE outfit photo (for another post later). Anyway, New York was amazing..it was just great being there and I missed it so much. Everywhere reminded me of when I was there almost 3 years ago and I was drowning in nostalgia. Anyway I don’t want to blab on too much, might get a bit too sappy so here’s my first (of 4) post on New York.

After spending the first 5 days upstate with Mo and his family living the suburb life (i.e. driving everywhere), relaxing and having yummy home-cooked breakfast, we headed down to the city where I stayed for the next week or so at Jen‘s super cute apartment! (P.S. She makes aaamaaazing cakes so hit her up if you ever need a custom cake!)

First stop: my older sister‘s place to see her big huge baby Baron! In case anyone was wondering, he’s an African Boerbal Mastiff and he’s huuuuge. I think he’s like almost 75kg?

On another day, I went to meet my favourite NY buddy KHOX! She took me out to my favourite restaurant……CHIPOTLE!

omg guys seriously….I miss this SO FKING MUCH.

Khox’s dish!

Later on she took me to this SUPER cute knitting store called PURL Soho. I’ve recently taken 10 steps further into grandma-hood by taking up knitting…but more on that in another post.

SO FLAMING CUTE MUST LEARN HOW TO MAKE BABY PANDAS. These were like thumb size!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can buy the little kit here!

P.S. Did everyone enjoy CLN’s guest post below? She’s super funny right? I mean, obviously cos we’re fake twins and I generously shared with her some of my funny genes. She also takes super cool nice photos and is blogging about her temporary life in London on her blog: SHA LAI. You all BETTER go read it!
